The Municipality of Frederikshavn

The Emergency Medical Coordination Control Center in the North Denmark Region alerts not only ambulances, but also the Home Care Service in the Municipality of Frederikshavn when an emergency call for a cardiac arrest comes in. 450 employees in the home care service have gained access to SimaGo on their smartphones and are connected to the control center’s communications platform. The integrated solution from SimaTech reduces the critical period of waiting for help.

Every second counts when a person collapses from a heart attack. In order to strengthen the response to cardiac arrest alarms, the North Denmark Region, in cooperation with the Danish foundation TrygFonden, The Danish Heart Foundation and Frederikshavn Municipality, has involved the home care service in the emergency services. The home care service’s 60 vehicles have been equipped with defibrillators and smartphones with the intelligent SimaGo app, which is connected to the Region's control center. The SimaGo app is in constant contact with the task and resource management system at the control center and ensures that the nearest caregiver is automatically notified when the control center receives a call about a cardiac arrest.

Together with the control center, SimaTech has developed the mobile solution for the home care service. The solution means that emergency preparedness in the North Denmark Region is expanded considerably. 450 caregivers have been trained in automated external defibrillator (AED) and in the operation of SimaGo. The control center already uses the SimaTech integrated task and resource management system, SimaTech Enterprise System, which manages all alarm communication between the control center and ambulances.

“All communication takes place in an automated, flexible flow that we can constantly follow on the screen. When we dispatch the ambulances, we figuratively-speaking just press a button to the home care service in the system, and the two nearest caregivers are automatically notified that there is a cardiac arrest nearby,” explains Jan Lindberg, Control Center Manager at the Emergency Medical Coordination Control Center in the North Denmark Region.
When a cardiac arrest alarm is received, the caregiver either accepts or rejects the alarm on the mobile phone. If the alarm is rejected, the system automatically finds the next nearest vehicle and alerts it. Both the acknowledgement and the escalation function are integrated with the SimaTech solution.

Heart Massage Above All
Each year, there are approximately 50 cases of cardiac arrest in the municipality of Frederikshavn. The chance of saving lives has increased considerably after the involvement of home care service in emergency preparedness. The initiative is part of a larger campaign, "Ready for heart start," which Frederikshavn Municipality, North Jutland, the Danish Heart Foundation and TrygFonden is responsible for.

“The caregiver will often arrive faster than the ambulance, which is a matter of life and death. The chance of survival for cardiac arrest patients falls by 10 percent for every minute that passes. If help arrives within a minute, there is a 90 percent chance of survival. That is why it initially is a matter of starting the CPR on site as soon as possible and not so much about getting the patient to the hospital. The caregivers have a vital part in this, and I see it as a clear win for patient safety that we can involve the caregivers in the emergency preparedness,” says Jan Lindberg.
Accurate, effective rescue
All control centers in Denmark uses SimaTech Enterprise System. A complete solution that handles all maps, task and emergency management at the control centers and the communication with ambulances. The control center in the Region of North Jutland is the first to expand the system with the intelligent SimaGo app.

“SimaTech Enterprise System is a powerful, flexible platform. Here, we manage everything.  We have access to an electronic map where we can see all the ambulances and now also the vehicles of the home care providers’ location, information on traffic conditions, special addresses (POI) and situations we need to be aware of. By this, we ensure that rescue arrives as accurate, efficient and smooth as possible,” said Jan Lindberg.

“With SimaGo we have a good opportunity for even faster rescue. The alerting process for the home care service is simple to handle, and the solution with smartphones is very user-friendly. The solution works perfectly.”
SimaTech Enterprise System
SimaTech Enterprise System is the generic term of SimaTech’s task and resource management solutions. The heart of the solutions is SimaTech Enterprise Server, which controls all communications between the various devices in the office and the mobile workforce. Different modules connect to the SimaTech Enterprise Server depending on the nature of the task. Control centers are using SimaOffice, SimaCar in ambulances and SimaTech WNS.

SimaGo
SimaGo is an intelligent app for smartphones, which is part of SimaTech Enterprise System. The office dispatch the tasks via SimaTech Enterprise Server for the mobile employee, who receive tasks, acknowledge the receipt, read maps and GPS position, and forward status reports to the office.
